Consumers in California and New York were the biggest spenders from Thanksgiving through Cyber Monday, according to data from Adobe on online spend, average spend per person and growth rates by state over the long weekend that kicks off the holiday shopping season.
For their part, Californians spent $1.7 billion over the four-day period while New Yorkers were right behind them at $1.1 billion, according to Adobe data.
In terms of average spend per person, it’s the District of Columbia that comes in first with $104. DC was followed by a number of East Coast states, like New Hampshire with $59 and Vermont with $54, Adobe said. New York is among the top states in both total spend and average spend per person, Adobe added.
That said, spending in all 50 states is up from the same period in 2015. DC saw the highest year-over-year growth at 32% and was followed by Alaska at 29%, Maryland at 28% and Nevada at 26%.
